XC National Champs Djouce  Sun, Jul 18, 2010

XC Marathon Champs Sun, Sep 26, 2010

I gleamed these from the Irish xc mtb site calender (http://www.irishxcmtb.com/calendar/i...ents-calendar/  site) and thought they might be useful for anyone looking to book holidays ect... 6 of the 7 NPS dates are confirmed but keep in mind there is usually a change with one or two of them so always better to check with the calendar. 7 rounds in 12 weeks is decent continuity and great to see the nationals will be in Djouce !

Good man Dave

Alot of away races next year by the looks of things... 3 up the north, 1 in kerry and are MBUL in Cork..?
No Carlingford i see...And no banbridge race either.

Very compact looking season.... I hope there will be a few other events to fill the gap to the marathon champs.

MBUL = Mountain Biking University of Limerick or something close to that.

Yea it looks good, thats the idea of a "National" Points Series, bit of diversity once the standards are kept across all races.

howdy lads
yes, the idea was that we (offroad commission) would set the calendar dates in order not to have very big/small gaps in the series, then ask the clubs to pick their dates, also we wanted to ensure no clashes with DH races in case riders wanted to do both disciplines, so this has been done too.
The only one that's not settled yet is the XMTB one but I'm pretty confident it will go ahead as planned.

Note that there will also be various Provincial leagues running countrywide, more info on those soon but re; Leinster we're thinking of having the IMBRC and MAD NPS counting as 2 rounds, Racing 795 in Wexford will be hosting a specific round of the Leinster league, we're also trying to get some other clubs (eg; Sorrento/CuChulainn) to be part of the Leinster league.

Also, post-XC Nationals there's plenty of alternative events planned with the 2 day enduro/endurance events such as the West Cork Bike Fest and MADMTB's King of 3Rock, and the classic Blast which is moving to a 2 day format.
Also there's the Colley Thriller Marathon and the Marathon Champs in Ballyhoura so plenty to keep ye off the nasty dangerous road....

Time to book that B&B In Kilarney!
I have very little time to get to the gym, so I have to sculpt my guns at the office

plenty of info Ben - but it's all in my head!
I can tell you though that the Saturday will be an Enduro style event where riders will be doing timed runs on a series of DH-XC trails (ie; virtually no climbing - all fast and pointing down) - all starting in the same place and ending in the same place.
Half the trails will suit DH bikes more than XC and vice versa - a fun mix.

Riders have a limited time to get back up to the top (but plenty of time to push up if on DH bikes etc)
Riders can do as many runs as they can squeeze in during the time allocated.
Possibly best 3 out of 4 route times will count, not decided yet

There will be a 5th bonus track, the longest of all, which will bring you all the way from the trail below 2Rock to the finish field
to earn some extra points.

The Sunday will be the MAX-XC like this year - an XC endurance trails feast with the best of 3Rock singletrack

Prizes awarded for each day, but also overall prizes and much-coveted "titles" for combined days.
You can only be eligible for a title if you race both days

Titles will possibly be as follows:

Ladies: Queen of 3Rock

Mens overall (all categories):  King of 3Rock

Age 16-21:  Prince of 3Rock
Age 22-29:  Captain of 3Rock
Age 30-40:  Master of 3Rock
Age 40+:     Grand Duke of 3Rock

there should be some underage cats. too - have to think about them...

Time to book that B&B In Kilarney!
I was talking with Killarney CC this week - they have added more to their race route bringing it up to 30 mins which will be great,
they may also have a different venue which is supposed to be really good - they're in negotiations at present....

Posting to put this back on page 1 as it has the NPS dates.

Dave can do your administrator stuff and mark this one to stay on page one, the post that is there is from April 2008.

The quality of the NPS and the short space between them has been excellent this year.......  Roll on round 5 in Clare !  :)
