Special Guests confirmed for Awards Night: Celebrating Stars Past and Present
Cycling Ireland’s Awards Night dinner will be held in the O’Callaghan Alexandra Hotel in Dublin, on the 2nd November 2013. This function is held annually to acknowledge the achievements of Irish cyclists. After what has been a tremendously successful year for cycling in Ireland, this year’s event will be attended by special guests Sean Kelly and Stephen Roche, who will join some of Ireland’s current top performers like Nicolas Roche and Dan Martin, in celebrating Irish cycling.
Following a prosecco reception guests will enjoy a 3 course meal, where they will get a chance to mingle with some of the premier cyclists in Ireland across all disciplines. Special guests include stage winners from the Tour de France and Vuelta a Espana, Dan Martin and Nicolas Roche, along with multiple national champion Matt Brammeier. To celebrate the introduction of the BMX National Championships, World Masters Champion Kelvin Batey will also be present. Eurosport cycling commentator, Declan Quigley, will be MC on the night.
With this being the twenty fifth anniversary of Cycling Ireland as the cycling federation, 2013 proved to a memorable year for cycling, with key results including the track cycling world title won by Martyn Irvine in March, and stage wins in Grand Tours, courtesy of Dan Martin and Nicolas Roche. Kelvin Batey became the BMX World Masters Champion, and this year also saw Ireland’s An Post Rás na mBan grow significantly, earning it international media coverage on British Eurosport.
Throughout the evening national medallists will be presented with their medals, and the recipients of the Members Awards will be announced. To celebrate the 25 year anniversary, the new Cycling Ireland Hall of Fame members will be unveiled on the night.
CEO of Cycling Ireland Geoff Liffey said “It’s been a fantastic year for Irish cycling, with really positive performances from riders across the board. Cycling is currently at an all-time high, with participation in the sport continuing to boom. We also have cyclists back on the podium at the world level which is leading to an increased profile for the sport in Ireland. It’s a pleasure to be able to host an event where past and current cycling stars are present, and we are inviting people to come and join in this celebration.”
