The Montane Kielder 100 is a 1 Wink Wink mile mtb race (one loop, no laps) the 2nd edition of which takes place on Sat 4th September 2010. It is Britain's first 100 mile, single lap, off-road mountain bike race. One lap of a specially designed one hundred mile endurance mountain bike race course with just one road crossing, some fire roads, some grass tracks and a surprising amount of challenging, technical singletrack.

Website (reg is open):  http://www.sip-events.co.uk/kielder-time.html
There's a race report from the '09 edition on  Bikemagic.com

Inspired by similar events in the USA, the most famous of which is the Leadville 100 which Armstrong won last year having beaten David Weins who beat him the previous year (YouTube compilation below)

KIELDER 100 UPDATE:
Following the NPS & the Nationals on July 18th there is a seven week break till this event so plenty of time to put in a few long spins. As well as being a great event in its own right there's the bonus that the folllowing week is the Cooley marathon and then two weeks later the national Champs marathon so perfect preparation !
I've done a costing and it works out at approx 200 yo yo  per person based on 2 people coming down to 185 for three.
This includes :
*Stena crossing both ways (leaving Fri and returning Sun)
*Race fee (incl feed stations, food voucher for after and t-shirt)
*Accomodation for 2 nights at Whitaugh adventure center (organizers have a deal with the center so g8 value here)

Let me know if you are interested.

Thanks but i'm gone off all things French after watching the massacre in Paris earlier on  Cry !

.....it does look interesting though and i'll keep it in mind for the future but i have a family holiday coming up in Spain and am signed up for the Roc as well so another trip to France is not on d cards finance wise.
The Kielder is the better option for me - two days accommodation,  race entry & ferry for 200 yo yo is hard to beat value wise + the race appeals to me anyway. I know it won't be anywhere near as bling as some of the big races but sometimes these ones are the real gems  Smiley !

For those that were considering this event please note that it has a 650 cap and they announced on March 11th that they only had 75 places left so safe to say that it's a lot less than that now and possibly down to the last few.
