Cheers Dave, great ride too. lol I had the same plan! Shame we didn't get into the top 20 as we thought we did. A few of those guys that did make the top 20, did it off your back wheel as you dragged them up the expressway both laps. I should have worked harder with you to claw them back but as it took about 1.5 laps to actually catch you, I could only manage myself from there on. I'll start the next race beside you!
Interesting point about the water/gels. Because of the Cx racing (with no water bottles) I've got into the habit of not bringing water or gels for anything up to a three hour ride. With this in mind I only put about 200ml of plain water in the bottle and just used half of it. I didn't bonk, wasn't dehydrated or didn't even get a hint of a cramp (I'm usually always get warnings of cramps at least). I'm not recommending it, just thought it was interesting how the body adapts over time. I had a total dry mouth but that was from the Sudofed I took earlier in the morning, and that was all I really needed the water for. Obviously as it gets warmer I'll need to bring more fuel.
Haven't ridden the Coillte Stowe loop since the Blitz last year, its got fairly rough in spots IMO. Nothing that is difficult to ride, it just doesn't seem to flow like it did, LSD especially...littered with hazards. Maybe I'm just spending too much time on the roads on the cross bike since I got it. Weather was super anyway, felt like we were racing in California or something with the sunny blue skies and cool air.
Great turnout and results for the club in general. Well done Adam and Ryan. And in SP, Anto and Tayto giving the top ten major grief again! Its going to be a great year for the club!
