Best of luck to anyone racing tomorrow !

Irish CX Championships - Lurgan Park
Date: Sunday 9 January 2011
Event: Irish National Cyclo-Cross Championships
Venue: Lurgan Park
Host club: Banbridge CC, Apollo CT, Dromara CC

The 2011 National Cyclo-cross championships will be hosted at Lurgan Park, County Armagh, by three local clubs, Banbridge CC, Apollo CT and Dromara CC.  The park was used for the first round of the 2010 Ulster Cyclo Cross Series and is one of the best venues in the country.  On the day there will be the full range of support races as well as the Junior CX championships and the National (senior) Championships.  Sponsors are in place and everything is set for a great event.  More details below.

Course description

The main course is approx 1.4 miles in length and should take the lead riders approx 7-7.20 mins per lap. It is a fast flowing course with a new section that hasn’t been used in some years. Riders will be pleased to know that the zigzag back section has been shorterend and riders will only be riding up hill once keeping the racing fast. Of course as always at Lurgan Park there will also be the jumps which  attract the local spectators.

There will be a double pit area in which we have worked hard to get as close to half way round the course as possible. Water supply will be available to use.  Riders should take note to bring their own bucket and sponge if they wish to clean bikes. (see more detail about the double pits below)

The starting area will also be near the pit area and will give the riders plenty of room to race before turning left and heading up towards the finish line. The finish line will be up beside the pavilion where Apollo finished their race making an exciting final run in for spectators and riders alike.

Riders in both the MTB support race and Main CX Race will also have chipped timing to ensure that everybody gets lap times.

Gridding lists
Two versions of the gridding list are now available here.  The list also highlights those riders who have pre-registered for the event.

Cyclo-cross race duration
The junior championship race will be 40 minutes with the national championships approximately 60 minutes.  Juniors will be started at the back of the grid and will set off one minute behind the main field.  Juniors will not be able to participate in the team prize.

If there are insuffient numbers of juniors (less than 6) and all juniors agree then they can ride in the senior event.  In this case the combined race will be 50 minutes.  The juniors will be eligible for the junior medals and jersey and would also be eligible for the team prize.

Double pit area:
Riders should note that there will be a double pit area on the course which can be accessed both on the 'out' lap and the 'in' lap.  There will be a 'race lane' which passes the pit area and a 'breakdown assitance lane'.  A rider may only take the breakdown assistance lane to change his/her bicyle or a wheel.  A rider who has passed the end of the pit area must continue to the following pit area for any bicycle or wheel change.  Changes of wheel or bicycle between riders are forbidden.

Prizes:

Note 1: National Championship medals and jerseys will only be awarded to those riders with a UCI code of IRL in accordance with UCI regulations.
Note 2: If there are 3 or less eligible riders in a category then only the first place will be awarded.
