The Salzkammergut Trophy race is Austria's biggest one day marathon with participants from 37 nations and 7 different race distances through the UNESCO world cultural heritage region Hallstatt-Dachstein-Salzkammergut. I had signed up for the long loop with 212km and 7000hm of climbing and descending...I decided that this long race deserved a proper long write up...long time coming too ! Feck writing it up took way longer than the race...stick to riding my bike in future ..LOL

Hi Guys,

Calling all daddies (and mammies) ...St Anne's park next Saturday...I'll be there with Maria & Darragh ! Current weather forecast is good too.

The Sprocket Rocket Family Cycling Festival marks the beginning of National Bike Week, and will be held in St. Anne’s Park, Raheny, Dublin 5, on the 15th June, from 10am to 1pm. The National Sprocket Rocket Festival is a celebration of cycling for the whole family, with a focus on cycling skills for children, and attracts hundreds of children on bikes each year. The exciting line up this year includes a Sprocket Rocket Zone, a Mountain Bike (Gearing Up Off Road) zone, a Strider Bike Zone and a Paracycling “Come and Try” area. The popular Games Zone will be back, and RampRage BMX crew will once again perform their stunts and deliver BMX workshops.

Dan Martin has fantastic win in tour of Catalunya...he sound hungry for more too...Vamos Dan Martin !

“I came here thinking the overall, but I didn’t have the legs in the second mountain stage. Now the good sensations have come back,” De Gendt said.

“The win is important because it’s the first of the year for the team, but I am not leaving Catalunya satisfied. I hope to be better at Basque Country, California and the Dauphiné, all goals before the Tour.”

Future Racers, Trailbuilders and Olympicians under 8’s/10’s NPS race report  8)

 ;) Under 8’s Race report

The future racers, trailbuilders and Olympicians of Irish mountainbiking got the days racing off to a brisk start with 3 laps of the U8’S specific course. The tape went up and the 11 strong field from six different clubs across Ireland roared up the fireroad, they then took a sharp left into the forest make very tricky by the sharp incline that preceded it. Showing great skills and balance as they entered the technicial section was Lewis from XMTB, Sam and and Christopher from Banbridge alongside Tom, Jack and Frank from Carn Wheelers. The riders then swept down the fast and technical section while parents and supporters watched, encouraging and held their breath ! IMBRC’S very own Alannagh Murphy showing her class as was Shane from Phoenix CC. Once more up the fireroad and not much in it in the race for medals Christopher Curry of Banbridge CC with a lead over IMBRC’s David McGarr and the two Desmond’s Donnacha and Fionn of MBCC in hot pursuit. All rode strongly to maintain these positions in the final lap, Christopher crossing the tape to take a well deserved win from David in second and Donnacha in third. Alannagh Murphy crashed coming out of the singletrack on the last bend, showing great determination and spirit she jumped straight back on to finish strongly and claiming first girls spot and second IMBRC medal of the day! Well done all, the future of MTB in Ireland very safe !

 ;) Under 10’s Race report

Two grids and ten riders lined up for the 3 lap under 10’s race, the course being twice the size of the u8’s loop. Mark Buller (Banbridge cc)
got off to a great start in lap one followed closely by Drew Armstrong (XMTB)
and Cathir Doyle of Carn Wheelers. Epic’s Ross Ennis was pushing hard as were Banbridge CC’S Jack Baird and James Buller. A Strong field in the girls race comprised of Katie Jordan from IMBRC alongside Anna Russell and Sarah Elder both of Carn Wheelers but out in front and building a lead was Niamh McKiverigan. There was some movement in positions in the forest with Mark managing to stay ahead of Drew but only just with Cathir chasing 3rd as they entered the final lap. A fiercely fought battle saw Drew Armstrong put in a big effort to overtake Mark in the final stretch of the race for first place, with Cathir coming in third. Niamh McKiverigan lead from start to finish to claim the girls prize followed by Carn wheelers duo Sarah Elder and Anna Russell second and third. Well done to all, this was a tough course raced well by all !

Many thanks to Centra for sponsoring the goody bags as an extra prize, the Cycle Inn for continued support and Haribo for the yummie jelly's. I have some photos of the prize giving which I will post asap. I hope you all enjoyed racing as much as Davey and myself and all the other marshals enjoyed being part of it.

Many thanks Dave  :)

Best of luck to anyone racing tomorrow !

Irish CX Championships - Lurgan Park
Date: Sunday 9 January 2011
Event: Irish National Cyclo-Cross Championships
Venue: Lurgan Park
Host club: Banbridge CC, Apollo CT, Dromara CC

The 2011 National Cyclo-cross championships will be hosted at Lurgan Park, County Armagh, by three local clubs, Banbridge CC, Apollo CT and Dromara CC.  The park was used for the first round of the 2010 Ulster Cyclo Cross Series and is one of the best venues in the country.  On the day there will be the full range of support races as well as the Junior CX championships and the National (senior) Championships.  Sponsors are in place and everything is set for a great event.  More details below.

Course description

The main course is approx 1.4 miles in length and should take the lead riders approx 7-7.20 mins per lap. It is a fast flowing course with a new section that hasn’t been used in some years. Riders will be pleased to know that the zigzag back section has been shorterend and riders will only be riding up hill once keeping the racing fast. Of course as always at Lurgan Park there will also be the jumps which  attract the local spectators.

There will be a double pit area in which we have worked hard to get as close to half way round the course as possible. Water supply will be available to use.  Riders should take note to bring their own bucket and sponge if they wish to clean bikes. (see more detail about the double pits below)

The starting area will also be near the pit area and will give the riders plenty of room to race before turning left and heading up towards the finish line. The finish line will be up beside the pavilion where Apollo finished their race making an exciting final run in for spectators and riders alike.

Riders in both the MTB support race and Main CX Race will also have chipped timing to ensure that everybody gets lap times.

Click on the image below to view the main course

There will be a separate course for the Under 8s, 10s and 12s.
