Hi Donal,

Thanks for getting in touch. Sorry for the delay in getting back but I was waiting on a reply from Coillte.

I’m going to put a small piece in this week’s paper and will use a few of your comments from below, if ok. I won’t name you – just use a local cyclist.

Thanks for getting in touch,

Mary.

Hi Mary,

I saw your recent article about developing the hellfire /masseys woods . I think this is a great idea but they seem to have forgotten about all the cyclists and mountain bikers who use the area. I emailed Coillte who said they had no plans to incorporate bike routes and or mtb trails which seems like a huge potential tourist and revenue loss. Any idea who could be contacted to try and get even a bike trails put in . Something even like the great Western cycleway they have now in mayo.

I know there are specific mtb trails in places like  ticknock but it seems like a huge opportunity lost.

I and many others use the hellfire and masseys woods on the bikes ( unofficially I know ) but still there are hundreds of us up there every weekend.

A favorite cycle of many of us would be up to hellfire . Thru to masseys. Out the back of it and Cycle up the road to cruagh and then over to ticknock. It has the potential to attract thousands of cyclists from all over Europe.  Just look at what Scotland.  Wales and Northern  Ireland  have done.

I feel passionate about it because I live in the area and I know the potential that's there and if they are redeveloping it , now is the time to grasp it.

Just a bit more on the hellfire works

I emailed the echo a  few weeks ago, referencing their article about hellfire proposal and  basically said what a pity it was there were no bike routes and or mtb trails to be incorporated.  And that I had emailed Coillte and they had confirmed this.

Anyway a reporter in echo got back to me saying she would mention this in another article in the paper about hellfire works

She said she would refer to me as a local cyclist.

I haven't mention the club in any way and won't do.

I'll put up the email and response in another post

Thanks
Tis a shame alright

So I sent an email to Coillte and NO there are no bike trails / mtb trails planned

Sir,

There are no plans to develop MTB trails as part of the proposed Hellfire project. In conjunction with the Dublin Mtns Partnership, we are continuing to develop our MTB trail offering at Ticknock and there are a number of elements to be completed there as of yet.

Thanks for your enquiry,

Hi,

Are to be any official mountain bike trails incorporated into the new hellfire mountain upgrade plan.

It would be a huge loss to the MTB community as this is such a fantastic place

Pity . Be great for tourism and mtbers to have more official trails

Are they incrperating a few MTB trails into this project ??
