General Discussion / Re: Aches and pains
« on: June 19, 2014, 02:14:36 PM »
I don't wear a backpack at the minute.
I was thinking the tyres might have been sending all the shock up through my hands (max pressure for tyres are 50psi and I'm running them at 40psi)
Think ill have to look into a pair of gloves

Thanks for the info. I'm holding off going off-road for the minute because if they are this sore on the road what will they be like after a spin off-road.

Is it worth the money going tubeless ? What are the advantages apart from weight and punctures ?

Looking into it and its €70 for the tubeless kit and then approx. another €50 for tyres.

I have the 51mm International Standard setup on the front and the rear of the bike.
Below is a picture of the adapter that I got except in 160mm and fitted the front perfectly
but the rear is tight.

Pic 2 shows how tight things are. Silver line on the LHS is the disc, block in the middle is the adapter and the blue on the RHS
is the bike frame. (bike upside down at the time of taking the 2nd picture)

1st thing I tried but either way I put it, it still hits the disc.

Picture shows the bits on the frame I was looking to grind off to make a little space.

Thanks to Nigel for the brakes.

Finally got the adapters and disc's and the front fit perfectly but the rear is a different story.

The adapter when fitted is rubbing off the brake disc now do I grind the tabs on the frame as there is
about 2mm before it is flush with the bracket or do I grind the adapter ???

Can I put a washer between the frame and the wheel hub to space the disc away from the frame ???

I am only throwing out idea's here so if the above idea's are stupid please go easy on me  ;D ;D ;D

I have a Specialized Rockhopper with standard centre pull brakes and am looking at upgrading to disc's front and rear.
The wheels and frame are set up for disc's so would it be better to go cable or hydraulic ???
Is Avid a good make ???

Thanks

Looking to know how ye transport your bikes ???
I have a vw caddy and was looking at getting this system for the back of it

http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/ie/en/saris-replacement-track-system-trap/rp-prod39590

It can be taken out so doesn't affect the vans daily use and the price is not that bad either.

Gears: Mainly That there in full working order.

Brakes: disc brakes are recommended -  if there v-brakes that's ok they just work well in the wet.

Thanks for that, I'm getting back into mountain bike riding after a long absence and picked up a Specielized Rockhopper thats a few years old and is running V brakes so just making sure.
I may upgrade them to discs (if possible) later on but we will see how things go first.

Only new here and would be interested in attending the next spin.
Could someone clarify what is meant by "suitable brakes and gears"

Thanks
