Only new here and would be interested in attending the next spin.
Could someone clarify what is meant by "suitable brakes and gears"
Thanks

Gears: Mainly That there in full working order.
Brakes: disc brakes are recommended - if there v-brakes that's ok they just work well in the wet.

Good spin, weather stayed kind, trails were riding well and a good bunch of folks to boot. 8)

Thanks for that, I'm getting back into mountain bike riding after a long absence and picked up a Specielized Rockhopper thats a few years old and is running V brakes so just making sure.
I may upgrade them to discs (if possible) later on but we will see how things go first.

LOL, Suitable gears for a beginner would be enough that they can get up "most" hills I suppose, (e.g. not a single speed, unless your a complete savage) and that they are working properly and running smooth (Shift correctly and lubricated). As for brakes as long as they work, Obviously some brakes are better than others but once they are in good working order, i.e. brake pads are not worn, you'll be fine.
If you are unsure drop in to your local bike shop and have them give it a once over, Any of the lads in the Cycle Inn will point out anything of concern.
Your bike does not need to be a top of the range machine just one that works well.

I think the brakes ref came about from a beginner spin a few years ago when a lad turned up with only one brake barely working. If im not mistaken, that chap was Pearse :)

Had a great day guys.
Paying for it now though :)
Think my arm may be fractured also haha.
With a bit of luck its not and i'll be back out this Sunday!
Thanks again for the invite and ruining your spin by hanging back to help us.
