Title: The Cooley Thriller
Post by: Dave O Shea on August 25, 2010, 08:11:32 AM
The Cooley thriller this Saturday in Carlingsford.

Yes its back, ‘Da Cooley Thriller’ is about to peddle off once more on Saturday 28th, August 2010. Set in the Cooley Mountains just outside Carlingford, Co. Louth the route, approx. 52km, will take riders on a complete traverse of the Cooley Mountains, taking in some of the Táin Trail and forest tracks to some roller coaster natural single trails once navigated by the bold Cuchulainn himself. Starting in the village with a mass start.

I did this last year...its tough but great craic....!!

I'd recommended you all do it...... dont be put off by the distance, treat it like a long spin and come prepared with extra filled water bottles and food/gels for the bottle drops around the course.

There was 2 last year.....you bring your full spare bottles/gels/bars and there will be somewhere to leave them at sign-on

then the lads will take them to the feed stations prob about 1/3 and 2/3 distance

make sure you mark your bottles or sometimes someone else might go off with them

great day out, Absolutely toasted after it. Big well done to Cuchulainn, course was well marked got me back in one piece, unfortunate for my 1 day old garmin its not the same story  :'( took a lovely tumble after the masts and it was game over for it. Came off in the same place last year and broke a shifter so i was kinda pleased that didnt happen again, I'll never learn!

Thats was great fun today... Felt much better than last year :-)

Was swaping places with the same group all day.... Myself and Davy worked together for the first half, helped alot and i was able to have a much stronger finish than last year  :)

Bad luck with the Garmin Davey...  :'(

Great stuff from Cu Cuchulainn ...marathon courses across such a large and open area are hard to mark but you really couldn't go astray this year (except when the lead motorbike did he he) with the amount of markers.
My (over-torqued) seatpost failed inside 5 km but i was able to drop it down like a free ride bike and carry on...not ideal but delighted to be able to continue !
Pasta and chicken was g8 after too ....thanks Cu Cuchulainn for a great event !

Yeah and I won Sports ladies with an impressive time of 3.55.....never actually realised I was that fast before! Oh wait Im not....unfortunately that is not me (or maybe there is another Rose Griffin out there), but there was just a very small, barely noticable difference in that time and my own though, just plus another 1hr 35mins!!
But was a good day out none the less......glad I done it....and didnt die! Just kiddin, it was great.
Well done to everyone else that took part too!
