Ok, i know its a bit early for lights....but just thought i'd post the link to where we got the cheepo lights for last winter as they can take 6 to 8 weeks to be delivered on the slow boat from china.
Helmet mount
http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.29489
Bar mount
http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.25149
Great lights for the money....There is a slim chance you might get stung for customs tax
And paying the extra for the fast delivery didnt really knock much time off the shipping
They can also be found on ebay from various sellers.. If you search for "magicshine" you should find them.
-
check these bad boys out
http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.36018
-
Yeah i seen them today Adam......Serious stuff...!! They would see you from space..!! :P
-
cheers Paul,
I kept meaning to ask about those lights, no need now.
-
You should prob be thinking of ordering around now as they can take about 5/6 weeks to arrive on the slow boat from China....
-
Just got mine last week, took under 3 weeks.
Was wondering if there should be battery mount for bike in packaging. Big customs sticker across packaging on arrival. Probably ran stacked it looking for rhino horn and lost it >:(.
Looking forward to some nite spins once I get adaptor to charge it up.
-
There was no batt mount with mine Dave... i used to just cable tie it to the helmet.
If you get the extention lead you can put it in a backpack
-
Cheers
-
I just got a set of lights..... delivery times seem to have improved alot
It took exactly 2 weeks to arrive and i didnt get stung for customs :)
-
Good stuff
i ordered two sets the other day and they have been shipped yesterday, they reckon 7 to 10 days or 3 to 4 days for ems postage. We shall see.
Hope i get lucky with customs too.
-
I used EMS post last year....It knocked about 3 days off a 6 week delivery, so didnt bother this time..... i guess it was nov/dec and the xmas rush was on at the time..
-
Paul, could you post the exact link for the right lights?
Not many evenings of sunshine left.
-
You want the helmet mount version...lights are better off moving with your head.
You will prob get rid of the strap and cable tie the mount to your helmet...
http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.29489
And the extention lead is handy too, if you want to put the battery in your backpack.
http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.32751
-
Instead of bodging the helmet mount you can buy a proper one for a few dollars... http://www2.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.32754
-
Lights arrived today. just two weeks waiting on them. And what's even better is i didnt get hit with a bill from customs. :P
Score
-
I hope the customs dont read this... :P
-
Chees for all the info Paul ect....are these tried and tested or just the best value out there.
http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.29489
and did anyone get the one Adam posted about
http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.36018
or are they over kill ?
Advice appreciated as i need a new set of lights ! Havn't gone night riding in a few years and looking forward to doing a bit this year !
-
I think both Dave
There are about 10 of us in the club with them and im sure alot more in EPIC and MAD with them and they work great.... For light output they are hard to beat without spending €250+ quid..! Build quality is grand too, i know fergal had an issue with the batt leads rusting at the connection point to the batt.... This can be solved, by a bit of sealer....or dont go out in the rain :-\
I have never killed the batt on a nite spin, so you can get up to 3hours light, more if you turn it down to the lower setting on the fireroads...etc
I havent heard of anyone with the triple shot light yet...
For the price they are hard to beat....Even if you just get one winter out of them... You might have to do some messing about with the helmet mounting, but other than that they are grand...
Look them up on youtube, there are loads of videos..... search "magic shine bike light"

Cheers Paul for all the info....just ordered a set with the cable and the mount Cian posted. Even cheaper than i though once dollars converted...my 1st set which are now a museum piece in comparison were 3 or 4 times the price.
I 'm sure it will rain over the winter so what's the story with the sealant to prevent what happened Fergal ....some silicon ?
Thanks again for all the advice..i'll get u a pint after club champs as your consultancy fee
-
haha two pints :-)
yea, just stick a bit silicone where the leads enter the batt, that should do the trick if needed.
-
I sealed the battery in a ziplock bag. make sure the glass lense is tight mine let in a bit of water but survived its first winter and is still going strong
-
I got the triple bobby-dazzlers - jaysus they're savage yokes for not much money
very nearly got stung by customs but got away with it !
-
did ye notice on the single lamp version- they're upgraded the battery to seal it better and added a voltmeter

-
haha i knew you wouldnt be able to resist the tripple shot Fergal...!! your Mr Dealextream :P
They look a on the big side..??
I just got a standard version a week ago...no volt meter, only diference is a different batt holder
-
yeah, they look that big but aren't too bulky
if you were to fix one to your bars for night rides I reckon you'd need to put some grippy/bumpy tape on your bars to stop it from sliding around
for helmet mount - I reckon I'd zip-tie it down, I'll be giving it a test in a few weeks so will let ya know!
-
Doesnt this look like the deal extream light being resold by merlin for double the price

-
got my new lights yesterday. had to pay customs charges + post charges ( still very cheap )
have them charged and ready to test ?
-
Unlucky to get stung for customs Aidan....!
-
Another month or so at it will be full on night lights again ???
Prob a good time to send your order to china...
-
You can also get them from a uk site. Magicshine.co.uk
A little bit dearer but you won't get stung for customs and should get here quicker.
They also have a new one this year a bit like the hope 4 claiming 1600 lumens with the same battery life
I have being using my light on the last few night spins.
Time to get a move on and order
-
Aidan u have any more info on the light claiming to have 1600 lumens?
-
I was looking at them on magicshine.com, amazing lights for the money!

What type of battery is best for these lights? Is it worth paying the extra for a bigger battery or would it be too heavy??
-
It usually comes with a battery which is fine....Should last 2.5/3 hours on high setting which is plenty for a night spin..... You wouldnt want a bigger batt as some people strap them to the helmet or put them in the back pocket if you have the light on the helmet.
-
about how long does magicshine take to deliver....?
-
Takes 2 weeks from china.... dont know about the uk website
-
Another noobie question, do I need a helmet mount or are they used on the bars?? ???
-
Another noobie question, do I need a helmet mount or are they used on the bars?? ???
It's personal preference really but most people seem to prefer them on their heads so you have light wherever you look.
You can also look behind to make sure nothing's following you whenever you get freaked out up at the hellfire club in pitch darkness, but maybe that's just me... :D
-
Another noobie question, do I need a helmet mount or are they used on the bars?? ???
Buy the one with the helmet mount anyway.... because it will also fit the bars.! Also make sure you get an ext cable cos it will give you options on where you want to store the battery.
-
Thanks lads, more bike stuff on the credit card now :)
-
I sold my triple-shooter and got one of these:
http://www.bikeray.co.uk/bikeray-ray-iii-1280-lumen-bike-light-set-with-open-light-4.5ah-battery.php?it=302&ca=60&p=1&so=0
gave it a test the other evening and it was very impressive - although more of a 'flood' light than a directed beam/spot
put it on the bars and coupled with my old L&M Arc the trails were lit up like it was like a summer's day!
sorry - I meant "the season formerly known as summer"
-
im waiting on the new 1600 lumens light :) cant wait to try it out 8)
-
I sold my triple-shooter
Was the tripple shooter any use Fergal..?
-
Mine arrived today but they never sent the helmet mount >:( >:( >:(
can the light be cable tied to the helmet or would that be too flimsy??
-
I never got the helmet mount either but mine sits nicely on the helmet abd the rubber O ring fixes it securely around one of the cross bars on the lid at the right angle
-
The cycle in have one or two lights left, 900 lumenums, i used mine for the first time last night, great light...good battery life..
-
Prob about time anyone without a light should be thinking about ordering one or two..! Evenings are getting shorter fast.. :(
-
I got one of the Fluxient lights off eBay - it's some beast, amazing light out of it - melted the face of 2 deer with it the other night other night

Magic shine uk site for anyone asking about lights
http://www.magicshineuk.co.uk/
They are Chinese lights sold in the uk with the price marked up a bit
These from ebay would be just as good and cheaper

-
Good find Paul, I just wonder would they actually arrive this winter
-
Buying from the UK they should in a week.
When we used to buy them from Deal Extreme in China it could take 2 weeks or 2 months by slow boat. Luck of the draw.
At least now there are lots of uk resellers.
Just make sure when buying of eBay you get one from uk

-
Yeah I think that's the issue with lots of them on Ebay they claim to be UK however they are not and take ages.
Has anyone ordered off that one yet. If they were fast delivery that would be savage for the price
-
It usually says item location. Check the feedback. Loads of options on ebay.

I got two of these recently, bought them on seperate occasions and both took about 4 days to arrive!
I've only used them once but I was quite impressed, Free Rear light too...
