Thanks very much for an unbelievably good race today, the track was brilliant with a good mix of everything, you can see how much work went into it, having the sun shining was a bonus.

Well the was some event.
I don't have the final figure for the attendance but its looking like the region of 240 riders.
Possibly the biggest ever XC race in this country (please correct me if I'm wrong)
Great Racing, Great Weather, Great atmosphere.
The last time we held an event in Slade was July 2006. It was a very different scene. We were badly affected by the weather and we only had 40 adult riders. Despite this, we still managed to put on race, better than any we had before.
4 years later, we have kept the momentum, that coupled with amazing weather made today's event was the biggest in the clubs history.
Race's like this don't happen without the support & sacrafice of the members, sponsors, friends & family. So there's a few people we have to thank
Firstly the sponsors -
Mike Jordan & the Cycle Inn for prizes.
Dave o'Brien & Haribo for keeping the sugar buzz up
Ben Marchant & Columbia Sportwear for the super prizes
Michelle for the Yorkies & Randoms
Mark Kidd, Dominic Hegarty & RPM design for doing the signage around the course.
Sean Herlihy & Cycling for organising the Sign on Tent.
Fergal & the MTB commision for the timing, online sign on, registration (and everything else)
Shane Griffin & Eurocycles for the spot prizes.
Kev Stanley for the KS Construction Bridge :)
And then there is the members who put in the effort.
#1 on the list is Colm Keane, who aside from putting big efforts into trail building, organising the medic & number plates, had the worst job of all, managing the gate into the field.
Paul Barry & James McCluskey, the chief race directors, who were dedicated to the success of the race from start to finish.
Cian Mulligan for his super effort with building the trail and his expert knowledge of the forest.
His Mam Joan for organising the field.
Dave O'Shea for a great job in the weeks running up to the event.
Cornelius Duffy for the Carparking & Timing.
John Clarke for always being the man who gets things done.
Joe Jones for his fence building skills.
The entire Griffin family for their help
Shiela & Nicole Barry for the Tea and Sambos
Shay Barry for the photos.
Luke Manning for cracking the whip
Steve Merriman & Fergal for the sign on.
The rest of the sign on crew, Daragh Hanlon, Shane Griffin, Philip Griffin, Sadhbh, Rob Tobin,
and of course,
Richie Byrne for Commansaire, PA, & Slagging.
And all the trail builders, Dave Askin, Dave O'Brien, Dave O'Shea, Davey Dunne, Kev, Luke, Trev, Adam, Jim, Chris, Tadhgs & his family, Rose, Cian, Paul Barry, James, Stephen Pollack, Michael C, Shane & Jason Griffin.
All the Marshalls
Dave & Philip Askin, Ger Grant, Gary Ahearne, Davey Dunne, Glenda, Dave O'Brien & Sue, Michael C., Ben Marchant, Rose, Sadhbh, Kev, Luke, Gary grimmes & Anne Keane, Shane & Jason Griffin, Tadgh & his family.
Also, a big thanks to all the riders who travelled from near and far to make the event a success.
There are so many people who made this happen, I am bound to have forgotten a few so I apologise in advance.
Time for a Beer,
Gar.

Well done to all, the sun really shone on IMBRC in so many different ways. What a course, day could not have gone better. Savage racing too from our riders and dare I say it some money in the kitty! What a turn out.
I know you don't want to think about it yet Paul but the club league is gonna be awesome up on Slade. Trails were amazing!
Well done all, especially Colm! Tough job especially for 2 days.

Well guys,
brilliant turn out, approx 200 people racing;
09 elite
77 masters
06 Elite Women
04 Juniors
57 Sports
24 Vets
20 Experts
30 under age
Whens the last time we've seen that amount turning out, i'm racing 16 years and have only seen numbers close to that a couple of times at a nationals.
Only thing, it shows the lack of underage coming through
-
You forgot the 20 experts and the U16 Rob..... There was 201 chip times riders plus all everyone from U12 down who were not chipped..... fantastic turnout..!
-
Ya fantastic numbers and didn't affect the quality of the race ..g8 feedback from all i talked yo from beginners to seasoned racers ! I echo Dave O 'B comment in thanking the only one not on the list above and that's yourself Gar ....fair play for all the work u put in .....if you don't mind however i won't be calling you "King Gar" just yet ...lol :)
-
GREAT DAY, GREAT EVENT!!!! Any results for the sports available?
Cheers!
-
brilliant weekend guys and girls, makes me proud to be associated with you all, great course ,club and riders.give yourselves a pat on the back 8)
-
well done Gar..great event , the only excitement I got was driving across the field , i didn't take a spin on the course or you would have been minus a Commissar, great organisation and a great team, that was the biggest tuenout ever in the history of irish XC racing. The previous record was the first national Champs in 1992 that Joe McCall won. There was 217 riders in that. As it was the first National Mountainbike Champinships in Ireland, it was considered a demo event.
Richie
-
Cheers Richie, and thank you for sacrificing your race to help us out.
I think there was 218 at one of the k-Caps, but our numbers were about 235 give of take 1 or 2.
EPIC running the champs in Djouce? - Are you gonna break the record?
-
I hope..but I hope that my Development races contributed to the numbers in Sundays race. And i'm hoping that we keep drawing in bigger crowds to all the races.
I have a plan to do something about the lack of Youth riders and ladies, Mike Jordan is onboard with that so its all good.
You have definitely set the standard for the NPS this year. If the other organisers can't reach that, then they are letting us all down.
we have to support each other and keep bringing in new people, but 80 masters is bad news, we should be looking at 80 riders spread across all categories in the Youth Cats.
If anybody from the IMBRC would like to get involved in developing Youth Riders and has any ideas i'd be glad to hear from them,
Richie Byrne

I have been talking to Mick about it, yeah, you can count me in.

Well done to everyone involved in the nps, I got buckets of really good feed back off people.

There are some amount of kids around on BMX that can do incredible jumps and tricks. They'd have so many bike skills if they changed to XC. It seems all the younger riders are at the DH races though.
