I should probably just get a full one off Cycling Ireland then. Which option do I want? The website has a bunch of them.
Title: Re: Ballinastoe/ Sorrento
Post by: Dave on April 22, 2008, 04:40:39 PM
Just select the off road licence. I will confirm it when you do. As it will appear in the club admin end of cycling ireland. Then you can pay for your licence. If you get it done before the weekend you can use the receipt of payment and the licence number to sign on without having to get a one day.

I was told possibly four laps for elites, which would put the race well over 2.5 hours, it should be shorter laps or only 3 laps for elites.
Title: Re: Ballinastoe/ Sorrento

Are they going to use much of the new course?
Title: Re: Ballinastoe/ Sorrento
Post by: michaelc on April 23, 2008, 02:11:36 PM

So what's invovled for sports?
Title: Re: Ballinastoe/ Sorrento
Post by: Gar on April 23, 2008, 02:19:49 PM
40mins for elite??? That sounds supsiciously like the full lap of red trail.
Which would be interesting.

So that'd mean 1 lap for sports.

40 min lap for Elites..!! Not for you Gar  ;D

Title: Re: Ballinastoe/ Sorrento
Post by: Dave on April 23, 2008, 03:40:19 PM
Its up the usual fireroad start, take a left up the grassy climb, then a left into the new st, down towards the grass ditch near the house. Take a right up thefireroad and do the top section of new trails. Then back down and into the old st with the bombhole and back out to the start/finish fireroad.

But if the coilte lads are still working on saturday they will change it a bit.

trying to picture that in my head...Sounds pretty good actually....
Title: Re: Ballinastoe/ Sorrento
Post by: Ben on April 23, 2008, 04:22:38 PM
Sounds pretty much like the lower parts of the old race course mixed with the top sections of the new trail.  Is the fireroad climb near the house the really steep one which passes there gate?  I thought they weren't allowed to use the new trail for racing?

When I was up there last week Coillte had blocked the two top singletrack sections with logs.  They had nearly finished with one section, then stopped and gone to the other leaving mayhem behind them.  To be fair, they had used a log bridge over the trail to protect it from the machinery.  Can't see them being finished for Sunday on previous form.  The first week of felling they closed the top section of trail because they stopped work with one tree left over the trail on friday night.  Sounds like a barrel of laughs for Sorrento to deal with.

Oh and 40 mins a lap is madness even for elites

Same time as always...They are standard times, unless a club decides to go left filed on it. 1:30pm give or take a few mins as the elites will go first.

One of the lads on MAD posted this info about the course.. Apparently it was being marked out from 3pm today... Guess we were just too early... Looks like a 20min elite lap.

Quote
the summary is:
6km lap, not sure how many for each category though
all the climbs are fireroads, 90% of the climbs are on the first half of the course.
the latter half is across and down via 3 of the man made sections (literally impossible to pass, or let someone pass) They do have small fireroad sections between these 3 man made trails though

lots of small puddles sections, so glasses are a must, there not the sort of trails you can close one eye on, I'll be picking shtuff outa me eyes all night.

there's no real mud on the course, a tiny bit on one of the decents, just spots though.

the man made trails are tricky when you're trying to get speed, and it doesn't seem much faster, the difference between pushing it on them and takeing it handier and pumping into the dips and rises.
All the pedalling is wasted braking into the corners (which can be too tight not to).

its all markedout now, tape and yellow spray

there's no real new stuff, just 2 small sections near the carpark. No bomb hole, you actually join that trail a bit higher and climb it instead of decending.

its enjoyable overall, if you like fireraod climbs you're laughin

Yea, it was good craic today... Although, i didnt think it when my lungs were bursting after the first few climbs  ;D But the fast single track was worth the effort.

Well done everyone, great blue jersey turn-out again..!!

Any sign of the results anywhere...?

Title: Re: Ballinastoe/ Sorrento
Post by: Gar on April 28, 2008, 10:38:28 AM
No confidence in those results to be honest - i reckon my place is correct though.

The lap made for close racing. The sports race was very close
and 18 IMBRC riders...that might be a record

I don't know...I have no faith in those timekeepers.
Title: Re: Ballinastoe/ Sorrento
Post by: michaelc on April 28, 2008, 12:19:01 PM

Could be gar, according to the results somebody came in one second after me and there was definately nobody on my wheel for the last section, so unless he was waiting at the line til i crossed.
Title: Re: Ballinastoe/ Sorrento
Post by: Dave on April 28, 2008, 01:43:09 PM
Yea wouldnt be too sure on those results now either. Great job lads, pity i missed it, Elites race was shy of a few riders but looked liked good close racing based on the times anyway.
Title: Re: Ballinastoe/ Sorrento
Post by: Paul on April 28, 2008, 01:54:33 PM
They only seem to have listed the finishers... No DNF's on the results.. It looked like there was more than 30 sports men at the start.

yep, them results are mad..I was in front of Paul Keogh, Phil Roche was lapped, great to see Dave O'Brien going so well, though, that guy is just my hero !!  Gar used to be, and when he wins a Sports race, he will be again.. ;)

Yea similar outcome to previous years with the results, a let down really. Doing the times on the computer is the way forward.

Jesus if the Epic lads can manage it for there club race. You would expect that the all the NPS races would have computer timing
Title: Re: Ballinastoe/ Sorrento
Post by: Paul on April 28, 2008, 03:15:51 PM
Sure only one k-cap race had computer sports times, which was great..!! Its not hard to do.... 2 laptops and someone to press the buttons.
Title: Re: Ballinastoe/ Sorrento
Post by: Gar on April 28, 2008, 03:16:45 PM
I think that says it all ready.

There was roughly the same amount of riders in the epic race and more laps....

and times for each lap...

yeah for s**te sake, i was 5th in my race, ridiculous..cos this will fook up my points in the category for the rest of the season...like have some cop on! was nobody looking at thje race..phil roche was nowhere near me for the whole race!... >:(
get it sorted! hah

Yeah your right Squeak... Myself and Gar were talking to Phill Roche as he crossed the line... He got a flat and told us he ran the last few trails and got lapped near the end of the last section, he only came in just ahead of you 1 lap down... Did the timekeepers not notice he did 1 lap less...!!
