Newbie Intro
« on: August 05, 2012, 12:46:53 PM »
Hi Guys
Im getting back into cycling after a long break and i need some advise. Im based in Wexford.
I'll be using the bike to work scheme to fund my new investment. I intend in using the full amount for the bike

I have a few bikes in minds

The Cube Acid
http://www.cube.eu/en/hard/comp/acid-greynblue/

Ridley Blast
http://www.ridley-bikes.com/pd/ie/en-gb/5/392/mtb/blast

http://www.ridley-bikes.com/pd/ie/en-gb/5/391/mtb/blast%2029er
This is one a bit over the budget at around €1200.

and i have a few other makers in research based on users opinions.

Am i going on the right direction with these bikes. Which is the better setup. I;ll be using it for road and off road but nothing strong enough that i'd need full suspension at the moment. These makes of bikes are available locally to me. I will not be purchasing until October so the new bikes might be out but i cant imagine a big change in parts

Opinions very much welcome.

Thanks

Well with your budget i kinda rules out a full suss as you wont get anything good for that money and it will be too heavy. Hardtail is the better option at that price.

Cubes are always good value and you seem to get some better parts for less cash so id go with that one. You might be able to get a better deal or a higher spec Cube on Chain reaction for less money but i guess that depends on your bike to work limitations.

Wouldnt bother with the Ridleys, good bikes on the road and in CX bit not very popular here in mtb. As youe not buying till oct you would get a better deal on a 2012 bike as new stock comes in and shops discount old stock.

Giant xtc are also worth a look, good value and fairly popular.
